Lack of dispatch ability is generally considered as the major drawback of renewable energy such as PV Solar and Wind. The highly intermittent energy generated by PV Solar and Wind power plants is already posing a major challenge for grid operators for example in California and Germany, while the share of renewables in the energy mix continues to rise. The Industry is now increasingly looking towards energy storage often in combination with Smart Grid solutions to be able to manage this challenge efficiently. This event is dedicated to the latest developments in Power, Energy Storage and Smart Grid Solutions and you will hear from leading global industry experts that might provide the answer to the challenge posed by renewables.

This event will explore the evolving role of distributed generation of renewable energy in the MENA region and its associated challenges.
Distributed generation is defined in the UAE as decentralized, non-utility scale, and renewable. In the context of the UAE, this generation is derived primarily via solar PV systems.
The potential in the Middle East for distributed energy is vast due to the country’s high levels of solar irradiance. In addition, the market for this technology is quickly becoming much more attractive, with regional governments establishing frameworks for allowing distributed energy to be fed into their grids. With a net metering framework forthcoming, it will soon make financial as well as environmental sense for residential and commercial end users to install solar PV systems.
Moreover, distributed generation is also highly cost effective for off-grid facilities, which are often powered expensively with diesel generators.
Through special guest presentations and an open forum, the event will address the financial, logistic, and environmental ramifications of deploying distributed generation in the Middle East, a new and wide open market.

Leading industry analysts believe that Electric Vehicles (EVs) with ranges from 200km to 500km on a charge will have the same up-front costs to buy in 2025 as combustion engine vehicles. This is a game changer for the automotive industry and the global economics of oil, merging this huge market into the electricity realm, slowly but surely.
This global shift represents a huge opportunity for the electricity market – and especially renewables, since it is important that clean energy fuel Electric Vehicles. But challenges remain to understand what is the size of the opportunity, how the market will develop and also as importantly, who will own the fleets of vehicles.
In this webinar leading industry experts analyse in detail the challenges that creating and adapting infrastructure to this new reality will entail. It will focus on new business models arising, opportunities for distributed energy and the creating of a marketplace of buyers and sellers of energy.
- Be ready for the change – Understand the status, technology and future projections of the EV industry, including timelines, and understand the significance of this global – and local – shift
- Consider how the main EV related industries will be experimenting with change, from energy and automotive to infrastructure, construction, urbanism, architecture and many more
- Analyse how global trends such as the sharing economy and driverless personal mobility will impact the electric vehicle growth and ownership
- Evaluate what are the opportunities along the whole electricity value chain and how to adapt your business model in stages for what is to come

With more solar entering the grid at record low prices, the future of energy is renewable. But as more peak load electricity enters the system, batteries and storage become essential for load shifting and to maintain the integrity of the grid. So, what are the most promising technologies developing that allow grids to manage energy loads? Will the solution be maximizing one of those technologies?
This webinar analyses in depth the impact on the dispatch to the grid of thermal storage, cool storage and batteries among other technologies. These are different approaches to resolve the same challenge of shifting energy from when it is produced to when it is needed – at the lowest possible cost.
- Hear about the importance of solar dispatchability from the grid operators and utilities’ point of view – how do different technologies differ in terms of relationship to the grid?
- Understand how the quality, quantity, continuity and predictability of energy dispatch from storage is key to secure the grid stability, and how this is secured by different technologies
- The inside track of lithium ion, thermal storage, cool storage and other technologies – how their profiles change in terms of dispatchability

Developing MENA's Renewable Energy Market to Drive Job Growth
Women in Clean Energy Business Luncheon
Governments across MENA are embracing a flourishing clean energy industry and as they set ambitious renewable energy targets, we are seeing a major shift in the transition to a low carbon economy through the adoption of clean-tech solutions and necessary regulatory frameworks.Human resources will play a key role in its successful deployment, and the ability to attract and retain a broad and diverse pool of talented individuals bringing fresh perspectives, will encourage competition and support the sector to grow and evolve.According to EY's Women in Power and Utilities Index, women made up only 16% of the boardrooms of the world's largest utilities in 2016. The study also highlights that having more women on boards makes good business sense and improves the bottom-line. Well-documented evidence shows links between the presence of more women on the board and increased profitability, return on investment and innovation. This Clean Energy Business Council Luncheon will focus on how the transition to a green economy will bring economic growth, generate jobs, drive the growth of markets for sustainable products, technologies and services, and initiate innovation across the energy sector.SPEAKERS INCLUDEHanan Darwish, Cluster President Gulf & Pakistan, Schneider ElectricLamya Abdel Hady, Egyptian Electricity Transmission CompanyUpma Koul, Sales Director - Energy, WartsilaLori Atwater, CEO & Founder, TSC Energy & InfrastructureMhairi Main Garcia, Vice Chair, Clean Energy Business CouncilAnita Nouri, Founder, Green Energy Solutions & Sustainability -

The Clean Energy Business Council (CEBC) would like to invite you to attend a webinar titled "Cutting Energy Costs in Industrial Facilities: Case Study of an Award-Winning ISO 50001 Project in Oman”. This webinar will provide an in-depth look at a recent implementation of ISO 50001 at an Omani food manufacturing facility, Areej Vegatable Oils & Derivatives, in Muscat.
ISO 50001 provides an internationally recognized framework to help commercial, industrial, and government organizations save energy costs. Organizations that implement ISO 50001 can quickly cut energy costs by more than 10%, typically by implementing no-cost and low-cost energy saving actions.
Areej was successfully certified to ISO 50001 in October 2018, making it the first ISO 50001 certified organization in Oman. Areej has achieved very significant energy and costs savings resulting from its ISO 50001 project, helping the organization to better cope with increased electricity tariffs in Oman. Webinar panelists will include the Areej Assistant Manager for Energy Management and the consultant, GEN Europe, that provided technical assistance to the Areej team.
This project was also recognized as the winner of the 2019 Clean Energy Ministerial Energy Management Leadership award by the Clean Energy Ministerial organization: here
This webinar will provide important insights for industrial energy managers, corporate energy or sustainability managers, consultants and government officials who are investigating the implementation of an ISO 50001 energy management system at their organization. It is the first webinar in a series from the Clean Energy Business Council, exploring the top trends in energy management and energy efficiency across the MENA region.
The webinar will take place on Monday 29th of July from 1 - 2pm (Gulf Standard Time). Register now to attend the free webinar: here
