Innovative Clean Energy Projects in the MENA by the UNDP
The CEBC Clean Energy Annual Summit is our flagship event of the year where experts and industry leaders from across the globe come together to discuss the clean energy trends, challenges, opportunities and outlook. The summit focuses on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) market.
Key takeaways from the presentation:
– The current trajectory of investments and financing of renewable energy projects in the region is positive over the last 10 years.
– UNDP is in over 130 countries. UNDP shares best practices all over the world and brings them in the region in reference to Energy Transition.
– Examples of UNDP work in developing Governments’ capacities – to have the benefits that can help investments – are projects in Tunisia, Lebanon, and Egypt.
– In Egypt – Improving the energy efficiency of lighting “LED lighting to reduce consumption” and other building appliances with a total project cost of $19.505 M. – In Lebanon – CEDRO project – has been working on trying to move barriers that can allow market activities in renewable energies.
– UNDP’s new project is a partnership with IRENA and RCREEE as a platform to support green recovery in the region by implementing the Arab sustainable energy strategy and goals under the Pan-Arab Clean Energy Initiative (PACE).
– The main outcomes of this project in the region are – Increase financing and investments, enhance integration, and close the energy gap. This summit is organized by the Clean Energy Business Council (CEBC).
The CEBC is a non profit organization dedicated to promoting clean energy including renewables, energy efficiency, smart grid, energy storage and clean energy technology and solutions for the environmental sector. CEBC provides a platform to further dialogue between the public and private sectors to develop much needed policy and regulation to help drive the implementation of clean energy across the MENA region.
